Our Island and a vacation re-cap

I'm baaaaaack!! You miss me?!?
We got back from our vacation to our family cottage in Northern Ontario on Sunday night, and I've been up to my eyeballs in piles of dirty laundry! 2 weeks worth for 4 people. Ugh. So if it seems like it's been taking me a while to get back into blogging, I"m totally blaming it on the 3 day date I've had with my washer and dryer.

So where is it you drive 1000 miles over 2 days through 6 states and 2 countries with 2 kids, a truck a boat and a smelly dog with no laundry facilities and no internet connection you ask?!?

Well, come on in! Let me welcome you to Langtry Island.

The Island and the cabin is very special to our family. My in-laws bought the Island about 45 years ago and built the cabin by hand from the ground up. Over the past few years, we have added a few additions of our own, including a screened in gazeebo and wood fired hot sauna that I designed. Positioned right on the beach, It's the perfect spot to hang out and watch the sunset, then fire up the sauna and enjoy a few drinks after the kids go to bed!

Since the Island is boat access only, and we only visit once a year, the decorating of the sauna is a slow process. This year I bought some new rugs and made some pillows and a bench cushion for the change room. (If you follow me on Facebook, you would of already had a sneak peak at these!)
I'm hoping to scour some flea markets and collect a few fun accessories to bring up next year.

We also built a boat house/fish cleaning shack by the dock too.

But enough about the island and the buildings...wanna see what we spend our days DOING at the lake?!?

But it's not always fun and games. We always have a few projects that we have to work on. This year, Derek built the boys a new set of bunk beds for their room. Not a bad view from his workshop, eh?

And I got down and dirty cleaning out & re-building the fire pit....

...so we could enjoy these.

Big thanks to my in-laws for yet another memorable trip full of  lots of love and laughs, and HUGE thank-you to all my contributors that filled in for me when I was gone.

I hope all of you enjoyed your summer vacations too, wherever they may have taken you!
