Trendy Tuesday ~ African inspired baskets

I'm always inspired by handmade items from international artisans and artists, which is probably what has prompted me to write about this trend ~  bright and colorful African Inspired storage baskets are popping up all over the place! Both decorative and functional, these baskets are a great way to add some color and visual interest into a room, and they compliment almost any style of decor.

Here's some great ideas on how to incorporate them into your home:

These  Graphic Lidded Baskets from West Elm  are so versatile and can be used for storing anything from  blankets and towels to fireplace wood. And if you have kids, they would be perfect for hiding toys and games!

These  Striped baskets from Pottery Barn  look great in this outdoor space. Use them to hold beach towels, sunscreens and magazines.

Flat handwoven baskets hung on the wall = instant art.

Mini versions of these baskets look great styled on bookcases. Check out this DIY color blocked coiled rope basket from Design Sponge.

Use a basket as a planter like this one from West Elm.

Here are a few more colorful options:

Simply georgous Ukhamba baskets from Baskets from Africa. Check out the link to their website as they have many more styles and patterns that come directly from Artisans in Africa.

Are we loving these fun and functional additions or what!?

You can find a ton of plain woven baskets at big box retailers like Home Goods and Target, and I imagine you could paint a bright bold pattern on them. Has any one ever tried this or come across a tutorial? I just might have to add this project to my ever growing to-do list!
